ELIZABETH TARCZY-KOVACS

A native of Erdely, Transylvania, Mrs Tarczy-Kovacs presentations in nine languages
won her worldwide acceptance in the media of folksongs and lieder, as well as in light opera.
She is equally at home on the concert stage or musical theater.
Her interpretations of Hungarian music, especially Bartok and Kodaly's folksong arrangements have been acclaimed by the most demanding music critics. "...Her rich, non sophisticated warm voice is clear in
articulation and carries her own style impressively..."
A resident of the San Francisco area she is a frequent soloist at St. Mary's Cathedral, and at the radio and TV stations and Symphonies. Her own weekly radio program at San Francisco's KAFE station has been on the air for years, featuring her varied repertoire as a songstress.
Her recordings of Hungarian Folksongs are well known and popular on three continents.

JUDITH NESLENY

Awarded with the highest scholastic honors at the Franz Liszt Academy, Budapest, Mrs Nesleny is known in the Americas through her concert tours, guest appearances with Symphony orchestras, television and radio.
In her Pearls of Classics series, she has been compared to the finest of pianists. Her inspired musicianship is admired by her enthusiastic followers, and ...repeated musical triumphs... established her as a recognized interpreter of the classical piano literature. "...Her highly personal yet always valid interpretations are supported by an imposing command of her instrument ...a creator of moods...a colorist..."

She is a member of the piano faculty at California State University at Los Angeles, and listed in the World Who's Who of Women, 1976. As a composer, her works won her international acclaim.
All of the arrangements on this recording are by Mrs Nesleny.

HUNGARIAN CHRISTMAS CAROLS
The programming recalls the traditional "Bethlehem Walk" an ancient custom Hungarians still follow, where a group of youngsters go carolling from house to house to greet the holidays in their village costumes, spreading the joy of love and togetherness in universal peace
They carry a large creche and present the story of the 1st Christmas in songs, hymns, dialogues and dances.
The musical material used in such plays is presented on this recording and has been selected with loving care from about 80 authentic songs of this media.
This unique collection of Christmas Carols is one of a kind. The arrangements of the various instruments - flute, celeste, piano and the magnificent Schlicker organ - presents a festive mood and background to the traditional carols, hymns, folksongs and dances. Many of thses selections* have never been recorded before and recieve their first performance in this album.
The charming flavor and spirited settings of the music..." leaves one eager to hear more..." creating a sparkling, playful, and warmly serene mood in Holiday Splendor!

"...The mastery and imagination of these two lovely artists creates a truly memorable experience in Christmas Sound...delightful..."
